Garinish Island is the World renowned sub-tropical Garden in the centre of Grengarriff Harbour in Bantry Bay

In 2010 it is celebrating its 100 Anniversary. In 1910 Mr Annan Bryce purchased the island from the British War Office. Over 100 men were employed with small boats to transport soil to the Island. Trees were planted around the periphery of the Island for shelter belt.

A well known Italian style gardener, Sir Harold Peto from Sommerset worked on the garden laying out the Italian designed garden. In the late 1920s Mr Murdo Mac'Kenzie form Scotland arrived and worked on the garden until his death in 1980s. Mr Mac Kenzie won several awards for his gardening while working on Garinish Island. In 1953 Mr Bryce's son. Mr Roland Lestrange Bryce left the Island in trust to the care of the state. It is now run by the office of public Works (OPW).
